What is perfection?

I've been wondering a lot lately about the idea of being perfect. My whole life I have always felt this pressure to be great at everything, which only intensified as I got older. Be a good cook, but stay in shape. Be a good student, but make sure you have a social life too. Dress stylish, keep the house clean, be supermom, be witty and fun, be daring, be everything.

Is anyone else noticing something wrong with this picture? Even just reading through that list is enough to give me anxiety issues (which I already have, go figure.) Today I woke up and wondered, whose idea of perfect was I trying to be? It definitely wasn't mine. I'm never going to be that kind of perfect. And trying so hard all the time to achieve it leaves me feeling frazzled and unsatisfied. Today, I'm going to stop trying. I'm just going to be me. Harry Potter loving, funny face making, movie line memorizing, would rather eat than exercise, sometimes too lazy to shave my legs even though I need to, could read all day and forget to shower, me.

Sounds like perfection. :)

Messages from the Heart

I got Hudson crayons he can color in the bath tub with. Just because they are for kids, doesn't mean they can't be enjoyed by adults as well. Here are just a couple of the messages my sister has left for me in the shower:

I forgot to take a picture of my favorite one, which was "More Stinky". My sister and I have this long running joke we got from a cat litter commercial which compared two different litters. One litter was "More stinky", while the other was "Less stinky." Thus, whoever hasn't showered is the more stinky one. The fact that things like this crack us up is just proof that we definitely act young enough to play with children's toys. Then again, I hope I'm always young enough at heart that I can enjoy the simple things in life.

I'm sorry, I thought this was the desert?

It has been ridiculously cold here in good old T-town lately. Yes, I know it is below zero in many other states across the country and there is like two feet of snow. However, I have really thin Arizona blood so anything below 40 degrees is freezing to me! I passed this:
On my way to class the other day. I don't think I've ever seen an icicle in Arizona before! I told you it was cold! I think I will be staying inside as much as possible from now on.

Inspiration Comes in Random Places

Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning I make the long treck from my car to the University of Arizona campus. It is a long treck because I refuse to pay for parking, it's highway robbery! Even though it's far, I enjoy my morning walk because it is some of my only alone time. I jam out to my iPod and strut my way to class. I take in the scenery, which even though it's Arizona, is not so bad. I pass this note on the sidewalk and it always makes me smile. I like it for three reasons.

One, stay positive is always a great message.
Two, the fact that someone took the time to put it there to inspire others is nice to see in an often egotistical world.
And three, the way life is right now and staying positive is a constant battle, it's nice to have a weekly reminder.
